Fantastic Spain split foes midstretch and surged to a neck victory over 4-to-5 favorite Notable Guest to earn his first graded stakes victory in the $191,400 Golden Gate Fields Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G3) on Monday. The seven-year-old Fantastic Fellow horse was unhurried early on, racing in seventh through a quarter-mile while Now Victory surged to a clear lead along the inside to run six furlongs in 1:12.89. |

Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) fifth-place finisher Sedgefield will miss the Belmont Stakes (G1) after trainer Darrin Miller detected a chip in the colt’s left front ankle after a workout on Monday at Churchill Downs. Miller said on Wednesday that that injury will require surgery to remove the chip. |

Stonerside Stable’s homebred Grade 1 winner Bob and John dueled with 3-to-5 favorite Sweetnorthernsaint through a prolonged stretch drive to win the $388,000 Lone Star Park Handicap (G3) by a neck on Monday. Making his second start of the season after a runner-up finish in the Texas Mile Stakes (G3) at Lone Star on April 28, Bob and John stalked Jonesboro from the outside early before overtaking that opponent entering the stretch. |

The streets of New York will be a little less crowded next weekend because Street Sense will not be running in the June 9 Belmont Stakes (gr. I) but instead will be pointed toward the Travers (gr. I) at Saratoga and a fall campaign. The announcement was made by trainer Carl Nafzger at a press conference in the Derby Room of the Jockey Club Suites at Churchill Downs Thursday morning. |
