INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -- Horses, not housing, are in Hollywood Park's immediate future. Racing will continue for at least another three years at the track where Seabiscuit and Citation ran after its pending sale to a Northern California real estate company.
The news drew mixed reactions Thursday from fans, track employees and the people who put on the races. |

Despite the apparent terrorist attacks in London on Thursday morning, the July meeting at Newmarket continued as scheduled but Epsom Downs officials decided to abandon their scheduled evening card. Newmarket, located about 60 miles from London, maintained its schedule for a seven-race program that included the $469,975 Darley July Cup (Eng-G1). Thursday marks the final day of the annual three-day meet. |

Retired Irish trainer Seamus McGrath, who in 1969 saddled Levmoss to victories in the Ascot Gold Cup, Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, and Prix du Cadran, has died at age 83. Levmoss, a son of Le Levanstell, earned Horse of the Year honors in France after his sterling 1969 season. |

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Smoke Smoke Smoke held off British Attitude to take a three-quarter length victory in the featured $72,600 overnight handicap for 3-year-olds at Churchill Downs on Sunday.
The win was the fourth this season in seven starts for Smoke Smoke Smoke, who was ridden by Robby Albarado. |

The 2005 classic season is in the books, but it took its toll, producing one of the longest casualty lists in memory. But, now it is time for the second season to get under way, and although many of the early season stars will be missing, there is still Afleet Alex and a few new stars in the making. First off, let's take a look at the lengthy list of horses who either fell off the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) trail or were victims of the Triple Crown.
