Turk O Witz, the dam of Grade 1 winners Mr Purple and Queens Court Queen and two other stakes winners for owner and breeder Alex Campbell Jr., was euthanized on June 14 due to the infirmities of old age at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington. She was 26. |

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Just when the cast that chased Rock Hard Ten all winter at Santa Anita thought they had Saturday's $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup to themselves, an Eastern invader in Limehouse is threatening to plunder the race. Since Rock Hard Ten won the Santa Anita Handicap in March, there has been no standout in the California handicap division. |

Saying that California "has forsaken racing and its needs," the president of Churchill Downs Inc. announced July 6 that the company has sold historic Hollywood Park to Bay Meadows Land Company for $260 million.
Tom Meeker, CDI's chief executive officer as well, said the company selected Bay Meadows Land from a host of other real estate development interests that also bid on the property "because it was the most attractive offer we received." |
